conversely, clip the two halves together and lay fiberglass cloth along the seams to join the halves together into a hull. This pre-dreadnought hull was constructed over two and one half working days. As this was the first time I used this method, I could probably have shaved an easy half-day off the construction process.
Some key things to remember: The quality of your plug determines the quality of the hull you will pull. If your plug is excessively lumpy, your hull will be as well. This method will not give you the glassy smooth, gel-coated hull, which you see for sale throughout the hobby. Depending how the texture of the cloth shows through, some sanding may be necessary (wear a respirator if you do this!) If done properly however, this method will give you a sturdy, serviceable hull, which should last through many seasons of battling….
